From theory to inclusive artistic practice.
The ACPA  international symposium on Artistic Research Methods took place at the Textile Museum in Tilburg the Netherlands on 9 April 2024.
El simposio internacional de ACPA sobre métodos de investigación artística tuvo lugar en el Museo Textil de Tilburg, Países Bajos, el 9 de abril de 2024.

Het ACPA symposium 2024, met het thema ‘what Methods do’ in het Textielmuseum Tilburg, had een flink academisch signatuur. Er werd naar mijn gevoel nogal de nadruk gelegd op een analytisch duale verhouding van kennistheorie en artistieke praktijk. Overigens wel met de bedoeling om dit te overstijgen in een artistic research traject. Het was vooral Theodoridu die met haar participatieve voorbeelden van ‘Publicing’, door een heldere methode van het werken met scores, deze eenheid voor elkaar kreeg. Een meer filosofische feedback op de relatie tussen epistemologie en esthetisch oordeelsvermogen was over het algemeen genomen zeker op zijn plaats geweest.

A more philosophical feedback on the relationship between epistemology and aesthetic judgment would have been appropriate.

Forum
The next days, april 10 & 11, the yearly conference of the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) International Forum on Artistic Research, was hosted by the Fontys Academy of the Arts, also in Tilburg NL. Here too on the first day a lot of institutional theorizing at the beginning. But happily in the afternoon during the parallel session which I choose with Natalie Loveless, it became more and more practical, even personal in the (‘mobile’) workshop ambiance. Concerning the theme ‘the research environment and culture’, lots of valid scores – positive  and institutional critique – were suggested. The next day happened to be, in my case, the most fruitfull. This because of the artists presentations during the specialist interest group that focused on language as the central medium. The performance of Moutoula was quite impressive and the drawing by Tsimbrovsky very enlighting.

It confirmed my impression that artistic researchers enjoy their freedom especially in a performative way and are thus at the same time very much looking for an audience to share different kinds of perceptions, views, knowledge. Often stressing the esthetics in combination with an ethical attitude.

Confirmó mi impresión de que los investigadores artísticos disfrutan principalmente de su libertad de forma performativa y, por lo tanto, al mismo tiempo buscan una audiencia con la que compartir diferentes tipos de percepciones, puntos de vista y conocimientos. A menudo se enfatiza la estética en combinación con una actitud ética.
